TEACHING METHOD
HOW DO WE TEACH TANGO?
Our goal is to give as much individual attention as possible and provide you with inspiration and direction. Everyone learns at their own pace and we try our best to accommodate those needs.
HOW DO YOU BEGIN TO LEARN?
Every type of dance has a language. When dancers know the essential parts of that language it is easy to communicate. So what we teach you, are basic techniques of footwork, posture, hand and body signals, attitude and positioning. These form the skills that make it possible to indicate the direction, shape and mood of the dance. You need this technique to understand the language at first, then it becomes automatic. Later you can just feel the music and interpret its impressions by the way you move. When you know the technique well enough, and have a repertoire of understood signals shapes and patterns you will move to the music in an improvised way and your partner will dance with you. Generally speaking the man leads by invitation, if accepted and understood, the lady will move with him. Having said that, a good leader, will provide strong, and stable direction and this will mean that the lady will have plenty of support to improvise her own step within the structure of the lead. So in the beginning, we concentrate in technique.
HOW LARGE ARE YOUR CLASSES?
We focus on quality teaching and prefer to work more intensely with smaller groups. This gives us plenty of time to circulate and give individual attention.HOW MANY CLASSES A WEEK SHOULD YOU DO TO PROGRESS QUICKLY?
This depends on how much you practice. Two classes a week are ideal because it is easy to forget newly learned technique in a week. However, if you practice regularly, you could manage with one class a week.
IS IT GOOD IDEA TO GO DIFFERENT CLASSES WITH DIFFERENT TEACHERS?
You should select the right teacher for you by visiting different classes before you start a course. This way you make an informed decision. If you are looking for just having a good time, then larger classes with lots of people might appeal, but you probably won't get a teacher that will concentrate on technique. Our view is that if you concentrate on technique first then you will probably have a lot more fun later on. A little discipline now will pay off later.
